Hello, I am Mischa Hines, certified yoga therapist, registered yoga teacher, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner in-training and trauma-conscious somatic movement specialist.
In other words, I am a teacher who believes deeply that we each have the tools within us, at this moment, to create a life free from fear and anxiety and full of sustainable joy.
It all started with yoga - I took my first yoga class in 1988 at the Hollywood YMCA. I remember being crammed in a stuffy room with dozens of old rugs on the floor. I don't remember much about the actual class, but I remember walking out of there feeling like I was floating. Over the next year or two I tried more classes at other studios and eventually found my way to a more dedicated practice. Since I was a teenager, I have struggled with severe (and sometimes debilitating) depression and anxiety. Not wanting to rely solely on medication to affect change, I set a goal for myself to find other resources to create a better quality of life. Yoga quickly became one of those resources. Over the years that followed my practice changed as my life (and my body) changed. Through injuries and life-altering events, successes and joys, yoga always met me where I was and offered what I needed.
I have been teaching since 2009. I am a Experienced,Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) with over 5,000 hours of teaching experience. I am also a Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYY, IAYT.org), holding my Advanced Yoga Therapy Certification from Loyola Marymount University, Yoga Therapy RX Program (YTRx500). My specialization is in Mental Health and Trauma and I have done extensive trauma-sensitive yoga training through Yoga Warriors International, Connected Warriors and largely, I have done extensive Trauma-Sensitive Yoga training with Dr. Bessel VanDerKolk, Dave Emerson and Jenn Turner from the Trauma Center at the JRI in Brookline, MA.
Beyond yoga, I am Certified Therapeutic Imagery Facilitator with the American Hypnotherapy Association. Currently I am also pursuing my certification as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner which is a modality created by Dr. Peter Levine..
